INTRODUCTION:-
The road to the 5th edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2027) is officially underway! Ahead of the much-awaited mini-auction scheduled for October 28, 2026, in Kochi, all five franchises have finalized and submitted their official retention and release lists.
Across the board, 63 players have been retained while 27 slots (including 7 overseas slots) remain up for grabs. From RCB locking down their championship core to UP Warriorz freeing up the largest purse of ₹3.65 crore, here is everything you need to know ahead of the auction table.

1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru have kept their tournament-winning core intact, trusting their power-packed batting lineup and dynamic all-round options.
Players Retained (13): Smriti Mandhana (c), Ellyse Perry*, Richa Ghosh, Shreyanka Patil, Georgia Voll*, Nadine de Klerk*, Lauren Bell*, Arundhati Reddy, Pooja Vastrakar, Radha Yadav, Sayali Satghare, Prema Rawat, Prathyoosha Kumar.
Players Released (4): Grace Harris, Linsey Smith, D Hemalatha, Gautami Naik.
Auction Strategy: With 2 overseas slots open and ₹1.15 crore in bank, RCB will look for a middle-order power-hitter to fill the void left by Grace Harris.
2. Mumbai Indians (MI)
The inaugural champions Mumbai Indians continue with their battle-tested leadership unit under Harmanpreet Kaur, though they parted ways with a few domestic bowling options to refresh their bench depth.
Players Retained (11): Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Natalie Sciver-Brunt*, Amelia Kerr*, Hayley Matthews*, Shabnim Ismail*, Nicola Carey*, Amanjot Kaur, Sajeevan Sajana, Sanskriti Gupta, Rahila Firdous, Vaishnavi Sharma.

Auction Strategy: MI have the lowest purse (₹1.00 Cr) and 7 slots to fill. Expect them to hunt for value uncapped Indian talent in the accelerated auction phase.
3. Delhi Capitals (DC)
Three-time finalists Delhi Capitals have opted for continuity once again, locking in their explosive top order and dependable all-rounders.

Auction Strategy: DC need an Indian wicketkeeping replacement after releasing Taniya Bhatia, plus an off-spin asset following the exit of Sneh Rana.
4. Gujarat Giants (GG)
Gujarat Giants retained the maximum number of players (15) among all 5 franchises, prioritizing squad stability after strong showings last season.

5. UP Warriorz (UPW)
UP Warriorz hit the reset button after an underwhelming campaign, releasing 9 players—the highest in the league. Consequently, they hold the biggest purse entering the auction floor.

Auction Strategy: Holding ₹3.65 crore, UPW are the undisputed kingmakers in Kochi. Expect them to outbid rivals for frontline Indian batters and death-over specialists.
